Tip to cleaning vehicles driven over lime and cement
during road stabilisation construction

The process being used by the contractor on this road is called stabilisation and it involves adding very small quantities (2 to 5%) of lime, cement, bitumen or inert chemical binders to the existing road making material to make it stronger and better.  This is a very quick construction process compared to traditional road reconstruction methods.  The contractor is recycling the road using an environmentally sound road construction technique.  It makes sense!

AustStab contracting members prepare and execute traffic management plans according to regional standards and codes of practice.

Our best advice indicates that your vehicle should be initially rinsed by a pressure nozzle on your garden hose and then hand washed as soon as possible.  Please pay attention to the under carriage to remove any lime or cement that may have deposited on surfaces or ledges when you drove over the prepared area.  If it appears that the lime or cement has not been removed from painted surfaces, you may wish to try washing the vehicle again with soap and a weak vinegar solution.  Rinse the vehicle again after washing.

Please do not use your bare hands to brush the lime or cement off the vehicle.

Small quantities of lime or cement diluted during washing normally does not damage the lawn.
